RailwayCare RCS-L50: Lithium-Powered Rail Saw

Constructed entirely from high-strength steel, the unit ensures structural integrity during high-torque cutting cycles. Power is supplied by a 72V high-capacity lithium-ion battery pack, driving a 5.0 kW brushless DC external rotor motor—delivering constant speed and torque without voltage sag, even under full load.

Cutting force is transmitted via a multi-wedge belt drive system, minimizing energy loss and reducing mechanical wear compared to direct-drive or gear-coupled alternatives. The 400 mm abrasive disc operates at optimized peripheral speed, enabling clean, burr-free cuts on rails up to 75 kg/m.

A centralized electronic control module governs motor operation and provides comprehensive safety protections:

●   Undervoltage Lockout (UVP)

●   Overtemperature Shutdown (OTP)

Vibration is actively suppressed through engineered damping mounts, improving operator comfort and tool longevity. The entire assembly meets IP45 protection rating, resisting dust ingress and water spray from any direction—critical for outdoor, all-weather deployment.

Field performance confirms reliable operation down to –30°C, with a single charge supporting approximately five full cuts on 60 kg/m rail. At just ≤30 kg total weight, the RCS-L50 is easily transported and deployed by two personnel, eliminating the need for external power or support equipment.
