Rail grinders are sold through three real channels: direct from the manufacturer, through an authorised regional partner, or as a refurbished or rented unit. For new equipment, buying direct from the builder gives you the machine, the matching grinding wheels and the test data from one source. General marketplaces list rebadged units with no traceable wheel supply, no spares commitment and no on-track evidence — treat them as a last resort.

Machine type and duty — turnout grinder, CNC copying grinder, or a multi-head grinding vehicle.
Rail section and profile — 60 kg/m or 75 kg/m in U71Mn / U75V / U78CrV, grooved rail 59R2 / 60R2, or crane rail QU70-QU150.
Dominant defect — corrugation, rolling contact fatigue cracks, shelling, burrs or side wear. The defect decides grit and cut depth.
Wheel size and bore you need — for example 260x90x154 mm for a 96-head class vehicle or 150x70xM20 for a portable machine.
Annual wheel volume and delivery rhythm — a fleet that grinds 18 km·passes in one night window consumes wheels on a very different schedule from an occasional turnout job.
The acceptance data you require — surface roughness, wear per 100 m·pass, balance certificate, or a factory acceptance test.

Verify the supplier before you pay
