The market splits by machine class rather than by brand size. Grinding trains — the self-propelled, multi-head vehicles that grind kilometres of mainline — are built by Harsco and Loram in the United States, Speno in Switzerland and Plasser & Theurer in Austria. Turnout, switch and portable machines come from Geismar, Robel and Mecno in Europe, alongside China's RCG-class builders. In China the mainstream train platforms are the GEHI GMC-96X and the CRRC GMC-96B. Track record behind the claims

The results below come from third-party testing and side-by-side on-track trials:

  • Hefei-Wuhan high-speed line (2020) — 4.28 pass-km per mm of wheel wear against 3.27 for the incumbent wheel; 214.22 pass-km per wheel; no continuous blueing across the campaign.
  • Liuzhou GMC-96X (2022) — 20-30 mm of wheel wear against 43.5-59 mm for the imported reference on the same train, and 1.5× wheel life in the half-train comparison.
  • Loram DM01 trial (2026) — no blueing, surface finish Ra 1.05-9.0 μm with most results between 2 and 4 μm, against an acceptance limit of Ra ≤ 10 μm.
  • Shenhua — a 600-wheel batch passed the operator's acceptance process; Chengdu metro passed in 90 minutes.
  • China Academy of Railway Sciences (2020) — wheel wear exceeded the Q/CR 1-2014 requirement by 1.4-2.6 times.
